Huaraches 

Definition: Huarache is like a mexican pizza made of oval thick tortillas, the term comes from its shape similar to a sandal wich in spanish is "huarache"

Beef Huaraches Recipe

Ingredients:

1 pack of Huaraches Tortillas Tita

1 lb thin beef meat (cecina, fillet, ribs, steak, left overs) chopped

1 cup of refried beans

1/2 chopped onion

1 cup of mexican/ salvadoran cream or sour cream

Salt

2 tablespoons of Oil

Instructions

Cooking the Huaraches:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat
  2. Cook huaraches on each side until lightly golden
  3. Watch carefully to avoid burning - burnt huaraches become stiff and tough

Assembly:

  1. Spread a layer of refried beans on the cooked huarache
  2. Top with beef (or your preferred protein - chicken, chorizo, or beans work great)
  3. Add diced onion and sour cream
  4. Finish with lettuce, salsa, and cheese to taste

Tips:

  • Keep the heat at medium to prevent burning
  • The huarache base should be tender, not crispy
  • Traditional toppings also include queso fresco, cilantro, and avocado
